My fun new shoes! (Discount code in this post!!!)

I have big feet! I wear a size 11 and it can be quite difficult to find shoes in my size. I recently joined JCP Rewards to get a $5 off $5 or more coupon! (If you sign up, use code 3008 so you can get this coupon too!) They ask you for your credit card info, but you can skip this section and still get your coupon. Today as I was surfing the net, I saw a coupon code valid for $10 off a $10 or more purchase and best of all these could be combined (This promo code is REWARD)! Thanks Beth!

I headed over to Mr. Rebates, armed with my $5 coupon from jcprewards. com and my REWARD promo code. I typed in JCPenney and Mr. Rebates patched me right through (and told me that I’d be getting 2% back). I scanned their clearance jewelry and then began scanning their clearance shoes! Lo and behold, the fun shoes picture above were on clearance for $16.99! I added them to my cart and checked out using both the promo code (REWARD) and the rewards certificate from JCPRewards. (Make sure you have the Rewards Program Code and Serial Number!) My total before shipping and tax was $1.99 and my total after was $8.50! You can’t beat a great pair of shoes for $8.50 and I didn’t even have to leave the comfort of my own home! Best of all, I saved time and money! I live in a small town and the closest city for shopping is 30 minutes away! I saved gas money (which is about $8 round trip) and an hour of my time!

I love shopping…and shopping loves me!

I haven’t been blogging for long, but if you’ve read my blog much, you know that my husband and I are working diligently to get out of debt! (And we’re planning on staying debt-free once we get there!) In order to do that, we’ve developed a budget (and in order for that to work, I, a card carrying shopaholic needs to stick to it!) We’ve been on our budget for 2 months and we’ve done a pretty darn good job of sticking to it. I have wondered how I can feed my shopaholic tendencies and I’ve come up with a few pretty good answers! These are all things you can do too!!!

Mr. Rebates

Mr. Rebates is a cash back site! You sign up with them and whenever you shop online, you simply go to the Mr. Rebates site, log-in, and choose which online shop you’d like to shop with. Not only do they give you cash back, but they also post coupon codes to use on those online sites! Will you get rich quickly? No! But if you use it for things you’d purchase anyway, you could make a hefty little sum. By the time Christmas rolls around, you could probably buy a few gifts with what you’ve made (or you could treat yourself to something special!) Click here to sign up!

Search & Win

Swagbucks is another great site! I have been using Swagbucks as my primary search engine for one month and have accumulated enough “Swag bucks” to purchase an Amazon.com gift card and a Starbucks gift card! All you need to do is click here to sign up with swagbucks and then start using them to search the web. They’re powered by Google and Ask, so you’ll get good info (and you could get some cool stuff!) Also, if you invite friends, you’ll get 1 swagbuck for every swagbuck they earn (up to 100!) Considering that you only need 45 swag bucks for a $5 amazon gift card, this is a great way to come up with some extra shopping money! You could also save your swagbucks for something special. Right now you can buy $50 Southwest Airlines gift cards for 400 swag bucks!

Another great way to shop and save is to use coupons and look for coupon codes! When you combine coupon codes with Mr. Rebates, you are really making the most of your money! Most stores have coupon codes available and those codes can be combined with clearance items for really smoking deals!!!

Last, but not least, ask for gift cards! Gift cards make great gifts! And now that you’ve learned how to work the system, you may be able to get “more bang for your buck” then your gift-giving friends! I got a $100 Coach Gift Card for Christmas and bought the most beautiful purse with it! My OOP on the purse was less than 7 dollars! I only paid part of the tax! I’ll try to post a picture later! You can get great deals like this too! It requires a little more effort at first, but the effort sure is worth it when you reap the rewards!!

Happy shopping!!!

Tonight’s grocery store run

Isn’t my monkey adorable???

Tonight’s grocery store run wasn’t my best ever, but I sure did get lots of food for cheap! The big boxes of Cap n Crunch were on sale for only 10 cents more than the little ones!!! I ended up with 10 boxes Cap N Crunch, 20 Valley Fresh Steamers, 18 eggs, 1 half gallon orange juice, 1 half gallon lemonade, and 1 so-ugly-it’s-cute singing monkey puppet for $28.67. I saved $64.87!! I love looking at the bottom of my Kroger receipt where it tells me how much I save and the percentage…tonight I saved 69%. My big boxes of CapNCrunch (I’m experimenting with spelling it out) were $1.19 each after coupons and my little boxes were $1.08. The Valley Fresh Steamers were 50 cents each! My cute singing monkey that sings “Love Will Keep Us Together” was $2.00 and since today is our anniversary, I convinced my husband to buy it for me (Although I took the money out of the grocery budget since there was a little left!) Sometime in the next week, I’m going to do a post on how I use coupons to save money! Keep checking back!

How to get free shipping on large items! This is an excerpt from an email my sister sent me yesterday! Thanks Laura!

Yesterday I ordered ella’s new castle toddler bed. It’s huge and shipping was going to be $90-$150, yeah, crazy I know. But I ordered from walmart and did their site-to-store and it was free shipping. I saved myself big bucks.

Save money on food without couponing with Angel Food Ministries- This is an excerpt from an email my friend Alison sent me! Thanks Alison!

Check out if there is an Angel Food Ministries in your area. There are locations all across the USA, so many of your friends from all over could look into it. I’ll attach a link because it’s kind of hard to understand until you order for yourself the first time. http://www.angelfoodministries.com/ Basically a church becomes a host site as an out reach to their community. You can choose a host site even if it is not your home church. Our church just joined AFM’s about a year ago and it has been great not only for our family but lots of families in and outside of our church. Once a month people place a prepaid order for a ‘box of food’ at the church. Usually two weeks later you go to the church at a designated time and get your box of food (the church will have pick-uped the food early that morning from a drop-off/pick-up point). The box of food is different every month. It is supposed to make 5-7 meals for a family of 4 for just $30. It will have meat, veggies, eggs, etc. They say each $30 box contains $60-80 worth of groceries. The HUGE savings and quality comes with their monthly specials. If you buy a regular box you can order any of the specials. The specials usually are meat combos of some sort. Like you can get a ‘grill box” for $20-22 . The box will have steaks, hamburgers, brats, pork chops, etc. The meats are all high quality food. We have not had one bad ‘box’ yet. You don’t have to meet any income requirements at all BUT food stamps are welcome. Someone with food stamps would get twice as much food with AFM than if they took the stamps and used them at a regular store. So how does Alison make Angel Food Ministries work for a family of 7. I usually order 3 regular boxes and 2 specials at $134 or so. We pick up on a Saturday morning getting about $250 of food for just the $134. We bring it home and I look over everything. I mentally start to figure out what meals I’m going to make with this month’s order. Then within a few days I go the the grocery and pick up the extra things I think I’ll need. Like I said it’s kind of complicated to understand until you do it your self a month or two…but AFM would be a great way to shave a $100 off of your monthly grocery bill.

I love it when my friends pass along great money saving tips! Feel free to send some tips my way or let me know if some of these tips have been helpful to you!

WFMW: Weekend getaways on a shoestring!

I love weekend getaways…getaways with my hubby, getaways with my family, getaways with my girlfriends! Getaways can be quite expensive when you factor in hotel rooms, food, etc. I have found a few things that make these weekends much easier on my budget.

Hotels
- I like to use Hotwire.com. I used them in November and stayed at a 4 star hotel in Chicago for $89/night! I used them around Thanksgiving and stayed at a Hampton Inn in Indianapolis for $35/night. I used them last weekend and stayed at a Signature Inn for $35/night and I’m using them this weekend to stay at a Doubletree for $52.

Food- I try to plan out our eating in advance! This weekend when we go to Indy, I had to come up with something for dinner Saturday night and all three meals on Sunday. On Saturday night, we’ll eat at a restaurant using a Restaurant.com gift certificate. You can save 80% on Restaurant.com certificates by using the code “DINE”. We typically spend about $25 OOP for a family of 4 when we use one of these certificates and we eat quite well! I’m also planning on eating lunch and dinner on Sunday using coupons. I also try to bring snacks from home with me for when we all get the munchies in the hotel room. This is a whole lot cheaper than vending machines and room service!!!

Our weekend away including gas, meals, and hotels will probably cost us around $125…not too bad considering we’re a family of 4 and a typical hotel room costs that much!

That’s what “works for me!” Head on over to We Are THAT Family for Works for Me Wednesday!
