Easter Crafts and Recipes

I absolutely love Easter.  It’s a time to celebrate a Savior who is risen.  It’s also a time to celebrate new life and spring.  At our house, we do lots of fun food crafts to celebrate Easter.  We also whip up some tasty treats and dye easter eggs.  Since Easter is just a few days away, I thought I’d share some of my favorite family crafts and recipes as well as some favorites from around the web.

Make sure to check them all out.

Easter Popcorn Munchies

I love the idea of Easter Popcorn Munchies.  I’m actually planning on making this and putting it in cute bags to add to my girls Easter baskets.  It’s a great way to make the baskets look a little fuller without breaking the bank!

Make sure to check out all these fun recipes and crafts!  You’ll be able to spend precious time with your kids making memories (and tasty treats)!

Peeps Topiary {Tutorial}

We spent the first half of our spring break in Tennessee visiting family. Sunday night as we were relaxing in our hotel room, my oldest daughter came across a Peeps Topiary on Pinterest. She immediately showed it to me because we always try to give my sister Peeps themed gifts.

We decided to make our own Peeps Topiary to give to my sister for her birthday. It was so easy that we were able to make it in our hotel in under 30 minutes. We did have to make a run to Michaels for supplies, however, if we had been home, we could probably could have made this for a fraction of the price.

Here’s what you’ll need:

7 boxes of Peeps
Styrofoam Ball
Dowel Rod (We used a knitting needle since we couldn’t find the size rod we needed)
Tooth picks
Floral foam
Toothpicks
Container to place Topiary in
M&M eggs or jelly beans (We used M&Ms because they’re tastier) :-)

To start off with, place one end of your dowel rod in your floral foam and the other end in your styrofoam ball. I wrapped my floral foam in a piece of scrapbook paper to make it look prettier.

Next place your floral foam into your container.

Now you’ll want to pick the front of your topiary.  I used 3 toothpicks to mark our starting point.

Now start adding your Peeps.  We chose green to start off with and placed 3 green peeps on our toothpicks.  We then did a row of yellow Peeps around our green Peeps and worked our way out from there.

Keep adding circles of Peeps in alternating colors.

While you’re adding Peeps, if you find your tree gets top-heavy, add some M&Ms or jelly beans to your container.  I didn’t want to add too many in the beginning because I didn’t want them spilling all over the place if I tipped the container over.

Once you’re completely finished, add the rest of your M&Ms or Jelly Beans and VOILA!  You’ve got a beautiful Peeps Topiary.  This will make a fun Easter Centerpiece.

Here’s what it looks like from the back!

Check Out Craftsy Block of the Month!

Is 2012 the year you’re going to get your craft on? Do you wish you could learn to be more crafty? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you’ll want to check out The Craftsy Block of the Month.

The Craftsy Block of the Month is a completely free, year-long online class instructed by expert quilter, Amy Gibson. There are 12 installments, each one posted on the first day of every month. The first 10 months/installments teach our students two new exciting blocks (brand new designs or funky spins on traditional blocks). The last two months are dedicated to finishing the quilt. At the end of the class, our students will have full-size and one-of-a-kind quilts.

Students can view the classes whenever it’s convenient for them, and can watch them however many times they’d like. It’s filmed in high-definition, and it’s fully interactive—students can ask Amy questions as they go.
