365 Day Savings Challenge and a FREE Printable

Yesterday, I shared the 52 Week Money Saving Challenge, but for some of you, saving that much might seem to be a stretch.  Here’s a challenge that will remind you to be mindful of saving every single day.  This challenge starts with saving a penny on day 1, 2 cents on day 2 and so on and so forth.  At the end of 365 days, you’ll have $667.95.

If you have more money at this time of year than later on in the year, feel free to start with $3.65 today and work backwards! Or if you have random change in your pocket, check off that amount!  The goal is to save money every single day.  Maybe you have a particular trip you’d like to save for or maybe you’d like to save for Christmas.  The act of physically putting money in your bank every day is a great reminder to be mindful of what you’re saving for!

Print out this form and check off an amount each day for the next 365 days.  You may be surprised to find that once you get into saving money, you’ll put in a little extra here and there and by the end of the year you may have even more than $667.95.

Happy saving!

365 Day Saving Challenge from SimplifiedSaving.com

52 Week Money Challenge & A Free Printable

One of the questions I get asked most frequently by people who are on a quest to save more money is “How can I possibly save money when I don’t have any extra?”  Usually, if they let me sit down and go over their budget with them, we can find places to save a few extra dollars here and there.  While a few extra dollars may not seem like a lot, you’d be surprised how quickly it can add up!  If you saved $1 this week, $2 the next week, $3 the next week, and so on and so forth, at the end of the year, you’d have $1,378.  That would take care of quite a few Christmas presents!

My 18 year old is taking this challenge currently and has been surprised at how quickly the money adds up!  If you’re hoping to save more this year, consider joining me in taking the 52 Week Money Challenge.  Print off this printable and place it somewhere where you can see it!  Each week, deposit the money into your account, then highlight the amount you deposited and the amount you should now have in your bank account!

If you’re looking for a smaller challenge, make sure to check out my 365 Day Penny Savings Challenge which will allow you to save $667.95 in a year!

Add Santa To Your Photos for FREE

For those of you who’re not aware, last year, we got custody of our twins on December 21st. To say they’d had a rough life up to that point would be an understatement. Anyway, we wanted to make Christmas magical for them.  And despite all the garbage they’d been through, they still believed in Santa.

When I came across ICaughtSanta.com, I knew I’d found the perfect way to delight the kids.  And it worked.  I created the picture above on the website and then I emailed it to my mom’s phone and saved it to her photos on her phone.  It looked like I had taken it with her cell phone.  The kids were so thrilled that they’ve talked about it for the past year to anyone who mentions Christmas.

This year, we took our kids to a Christmas party that had a “real Santa” at it.  When it was the twins’ turn to sit on Santa’s lap, they were like “Remember last year when our mom took your picture?” and they were going on and on about it!  I was in the background vigorously nodding my head to get Santa to go along with their story.  {Thankfully, he did!}

Anyway, all that to say, you really need to check out ICaughtSanta.com.  Between now and December 10th, you can get a FREE photo from ICaughtSanta.com when you use promo code SantaShare.  Tonight after the kids go to bed, I’ll be taking pictures and getting my Santa picture ready for this year!

You don’t just have to use your photo like I did!  There are lots of other options! Create a keepsake photo for your kids like I did or make it special for your family. Do you want Santa by the Christmas tree? Coming down the chimney? Eating milk and cookies? Sleeping on YOUR sofa? Stealing a kiss from Mommy? Anyone can bring back the wonder of Christmas and be a hero to children by catching Santa “in the act.”

Do you send Christmas cards or eCards? Now you can add Santa to make a unique Christmas card. Add him to a family photo or add him and Rudolph on the front lawn in the snow. Be creative and use your imagination. Make it funny or festive!

Head over to ICaughtSanta.com and make sure to use promo code SantaShare to make your special Christmas photo!

Disclosure:  Last year, I paid for my own ICaughtSanta.com photo and it was totally worth it.  This year, I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

The Old Schoolhouse Magazine Review

October 1, 2013: The day our adoption was finalized.

The last 12 months has brought on quite a bit of change in our family. We went from being a family of 4 to a family of 6.  We went from having only teenagers in the house to having 6 year old twins.  We moved…because the addition of 2 little people in our already crowded house made for a pretty chaotic existence.  And just 6 short weeks ago, we made the decision to homeschool the twins.

Homeschooling is one of those things that I never thought I’d do.  We’ve always had our kids in Christian school and we’ve been quite happy with that decision.  Our decision to homeschool had nothing to do with the school and everything to do with our littles.  They were extremely behind academically.  There was a lot of stress involved with going to school and because of some behavior issues, one of the twins was spending part of every day in the principal’s office.  Needless to say, this wasn’t a good thing for anyone.  Since my husband and I both work from home, we decided to adjust our schedules so that we could homeschool.

Since I didn’t have the foggiest notion of what to expect as a homeschooling mom, I reached out to friends who homeschool and I also scoured the internet for good homeschooling resources.  I was surprised by the amount of information I found.

Two of the most comprehensive resources I found were put out by the same people: SchoolHouse Review Crew and The Old Schoolhouse Magazine (November/December issue).  While I’m sure all the issues are great, I started with this one since it was the most current.

I was pretty excited to find that The Old Schoolhouse Magazine comes in digital form AND is available as an app to download on iPhone, Android, Kindle Fire and Nook HD. I tend to read everything on my iPhone, iPad or Kindle Fire so this is right up my alley.

The first thing I noticed when I checked out The Old Schoolhouse Magazine is that it’s not some quickly thrown together magazine.  The November/December issue has 180 pages (including the cover).  This magazine was packed with extremely helpful information for homeschooling families including Reading Strategies That Work, Creative Letters for Pre-School, 2013 Excellence in Education Awards (Readers Chose the Best Curriculum), Writing a Great Essay and Introducing Your Child to Classical Music. After reading through this magazine, I ordered a few books to supplement my homeschooling efforts.  I also found some resources that I know will be helpful to my kids in high school (even though they’re not homeschooled).  Last but not least, I discovered that some of the authors have blogs that I think will be beneficial to our family as we embark on this homeschooling journey.

The Table of Contents makes it easy to find the information you want and need.  Here are some of the categories included: The Classical Homeschooler, The Unit Study Homeschooler, The Engaging Homeschooler, The Artistic Homeschooler, The Tech Homeschooler, Teaching Godly Character, Phonics and Reading and the list goes on and on.

Even if you’re not a homeschooling parent, there is information in here for you.  Teaching Children to Serve is a beneficial read for all parents (and is extremely important in this me-focused culture).  They also included a Last Minute Gifts Directory which was full of education tools and toys.  Many of these items would make a great gift for both homeschool and non-homeschool families.

The Old Schoolhouse Magazine includes practical tips for teaching and training your kids and also includes helpful information to help with the “school” portion of homeschool….and best of all, it’s FREE!  With all the useful info in there, I’d gladly pay money for it.

FREE Workout Videos on your iPhone, iPod, Android, and More

Every year on my birthday, I set goals for the year. This year, I had lots of health and fitness goals.  Last week, I realized that in the course of our move, all of my workout DVDs had come up missing.  I’m sure I’ll eventually find them (probably someplace that will completely boggle my mind), but I digress…

I was pretty bummed not to have my workout video collection, but I was quite thrilled when I discovered Daily Burn, a site that allows me to stream workout videos to my iPad, iPhone, iPod, computer and more.  This site has a variety of videos to choose from for all different fitness levels!  And best of all, right now you can get a FREE month of Daily Burn!  It’s definitely worth looking into as it allows you to keep up with your fitness routine…even when you’re traveling!

FREE Online Chore Chart that Teaches Kids About Money

Two years ago, I shared about MyJobChart.com, an awesome way to teach your kids about money.  I loved almost everything the site and it worked great for us for a while, but eventually the kids got annoyed with having to wait to get on the computer to track their progress.  I asked MyJobChart if they’d ever thought about developing an app and they said that one was already in the works!

I’m thrilled to tell you that the app is here, it’s FREE, and it makes MyJobChart even better than before!

If you’re looking for a way to teach your kids about handling money, about the correlation between work and pay, and to instill in them a heart for giving, I can’t say enough great things about MyJobChart.com. And best of all…it’s FREE!

Free Month of Lego Fun with Pleygo

Disclosure: As a US Family Guide Blogger, I received a 3 month Pleygo subscription in exchange for sharing this awesome offer with you! Talk about a win-win! I get to share something cool with you and we both get something FREE!

Pleygo is Netflix for Legos | Lego Subscription Service

We LOVE Legos at our house.  Our twins could spend hours doing “hard work” as they would say building intricate creations.  Even our 15 year old spends hours creating with legos whenever we visit my in-laws.  And while we love Legos, they can get expensive…especially when your kids want each and every cool LEGO set that comes along.  I’m so thrilled to share a cool new company with you that will change the way our family plays with Legos!

Pleygo is a Net-Flix like service for Legos!  Subscribe, rent, play, and exchange sets of LEGOs unlimited times per month.  Shipping is always free both ways and sets are sanitized when returned.  We offer a convenient, quick, and inexpensive solution that relieves clutter and saves space at home while saving money.  Co-Founded by influential parenting blogger and creator of A-List mom Elina Furman, Plegyo is the perfect way to supply your child with endless developmental tools and allow for that much needed quiet time at home!

Three levels of subscription starting at just $15 allow you to find the plan that best suits you.  They offer credit towards your account for sets and mixed bricks that you donate to us, and they provide the shipping label too!  Pleygo is a perfect gift for a family friend, loved one, or birthday party.  Purchase a gift subscription and send it with a special message from you! The best part is Pleygo is constantly expanding their inventory with more sets!

I’m thrilled to share a cool offer with you if you want to give it a try.  You can receive your First Month of Pleygo FREE  when you click here or go directly to www.Pleygo.com to register!
