Save Money with the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

With all the changes we’ve seen in health care and prescription plans this year, you may find it getting more and more difficult to get your prescriptions filled at an affordable price.  For many of you who have a prescription plan managed by Express Scripts, you may have noticed that your local pharmacy is no longer considered part of the Express Scripts network.

Thankfully Walgreens is working hard to make it easier for you to save money on your prescriptions.  With the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens, you’ll receive savings on more than 8,000 brand name medications and all generic mediations.  You’ll also get discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers, and diabetic supplies.  You’ll even get bonuses when you purchase Walgreens brand products and photofinishing services.

From now through January 31st, you can join the  Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens
for a discount price.  Family memberships are only $10 and cover everyone in your immediate family including your spouse and any dependents ages 22 or younger and your pets.  You can also get an individual membership for only $5.  If you’re thinking about joining, you won’t want to wait.  After January 31st, the family membership price goes up to $35 per year and the individual plan jumps up to $20.

This is a great opportunity to save money on saving money! :-)

You can stay up to date and find out about great deals and ways to save more at Walgreens by following Walgreens on Twitter or by liking Walgreens on Facebook.

Rain Rain Go Away

This picture was taken from our porch and is looking at the house across the street...which is waist high with water.

Two years ago, our town experienced massive flooding…and we were right in the middle of it.  We had close to 4 feet of water in our basement and our chest freezer (which was full of food) floated from one side of the basement to the other and ended up on its side.   It was horrible.

Thankfully, we had insurance.  Although our insurance didn’t cover all of our belongings that were destroyed (we had just moved the contents of our old 5 bedroom house into the basement and had more than $30,000 of furniture and other family treasures down there), we were able to have a water damage restoration company come and help us.

Last week, it started raining and raining and raining…  It seems like every day this week has had thunderstorm warnings and tornado watches. We’ve had winds in excess of 60 miles an hour and…you guessed it, more flooding.

While the flooding wasn’t nearly as extensive as it was 2 years ago, we had water in our basement yet again (and my husband was out of town…not a good combination).  I also noticed multiple friends posting about water in their basements (and some of them have finished basements) Yuck!

When my husband got home this weekend, we rented a blower and removed boxes that were damaged.  Thankfully, we didn’t have a ton of damage.  After so much of what we owned was destroyed during the last flood, I try to make sure everything in our basement is placed in plastic bins with latching lids.

Some of our friends were not so fortunate.  They have extensive water damage and seriously soggy carpets.  They’re still waiting to find out if they’re going to need to replace their carpets or if a ChemDry carpet cleaning will do the trick.

While all of this has been inconvenient and slightly aggravating, I’m reminded of how much we have to be grateful for.  Many parts of the company are experiencing unbelievable devastation due to intense storms while other parts of the country are in desperate need of rain.

All in all, I’m thankful, but I’m still wishing that it would stop raining!!!  What about you? What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?

$1 Old Navy Flip Flops This Saturday (May 21st)

This Saturday, Old Navy is having another  One Day Wonder sale! Head into your local Old Navy store and you’ll be able to snag a pair of flip flops for only $1 (limit 5).

Although these flips flops are regularly only $3.50 a pair (or $2.50 a pair if you buy more than 2), I still find it worth it to snag my 5 pairs during the One Day Wonder Sale. If you have kiddos, snag a pair or 2 in their size and keep them in the trunk of your car for when they have muddy cleats or sneakers and they need a different pair of shoes!

You may want to go early as these events tend to be a madhouse and they often sell out quickly!

Another Way to Save Money

Car crash - Picture 001

When I first started off on my quest to get our finances in order, I cut my spending down to the bare minimum.  I read books and blogs about paying off debt and cutting your grocery bill.  I stopped getting my hair cut and colored professionally and started doing it myself {that was a big sacrifice}. We rarely ate out.  I used coupons and saved ridiculous amounts of money on our groceries.  All those things made a huge difference in our finances.  Small decisions quickly added up to big debt payments!

One of the things I wish I had done when I was starting out was to make some changes in our bigger expenses.  If you’re like most people, you only think about your insurance when you’re paying the bill or when you’re filing a claim.  If I had known that getting a car insurance quote could save us over $300 a year, I would have done it much sooner.  While many of the changes we made seemed like sacrifices, this was a change that had absolutely no impact on our daily life, but managed to save us huge money.

A personal finance book I read recently (wish I could remember which one it was) recommended getting quotes for your car insurance and home insurance twice a year.   If you’re looking for ways to save some big money, I highly recommend making a few phone calls this week.

Do you have ways to save money without “sacrificing”?  I’d love to hear about them!

Weddings, Rings, and Royalty

Kate's Engagement Ring

Warning:  This post has nothing to do with saving money!  In the spirit of the royal wedding, I’m taking a detour from posting about saving money!

My Wedding Day (We both look so young!)

I’m a true romantic!  I love weddings, sappy love songs, and hearing people’s engagement stories.  I love flipping through bridal magazines, wedding albums and looking at pictures of my own wedding.  And I am absolutely gaga over engagement rings.  I could spend hours online looking at rings!

For the past few months, the media have been in a frenzy over the upcoming Royal Wedding.  Everyone’s been talking about Kate’s engagement ring which was originally given to Princess Diana by Prince Charles. I’m not royalty by any means, but I do know what I like when it comes to diamonds.  I like diamonds…the bigger, the better and the more, the merrier!

This week, I spent some time on Since1910.com looking at Tacori rings.  How gorgeous is this ring?

That wasn’t the only ring that caught my fancy.  I loved so many of the Since1910.com Pave engagement rings.  This ring is gorgeous as well!

If you’ve seen my ring (I’m searching for a picture as we speak), you know that it’s absolutely gorgeous, but extremely simple.  I wanted it that way.  My husband bought me a gorgeous marquis cut diamond and I felt like a band with too much would detract from my diamond.

Lately, it seems like many of my friends are celebrating their 10 year anniversary and are getting eternity rings.   I checked out the Since1910.com eternity rings and found this ring which is absolutely gorgeous, but I don’t think it will work well with my ring.

As much as I love all these rings, I don’t think I’d ever trade my ring in.  It’s absolutely priceless to me.

So tell me…does all this wedding talk make you pull out your wedding pictures, look at rings and dresses online, and talk about Kate’s wedding as if you know her personally?  Do you love the ring you have or would you trade it in?  (PS.  If I find a picture of my ring, I’ll post it later).
